Rolling revolution -
the MAN Concept S
A truck which is a transport solution for tomorrow: The Concept S from MAN. A slim front, flared wheel arches and curved cab lines - the Concept S breaks conventional truck design in a radical manner.
MAN engineers have managed to accomplish something revolutionary with their consistent, streamlined design: A truck with the air resistance of a car. This alone reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 25% - with the same loading capacity. MAN wants to use the truck study to initiate a discussion regarding the efficient design of freight transport and to illustrate the aerodynamic potential that still lies in truck design.
- The truck does not exceed the permitted maximum height of 4 m.
- The MAN Concept S trailer features the same interior volume as a standard trailer. This is enabled by exceeding the permitted truck length (20 m instead of 16.50 m). Legislation is required here.
- To optimise rear airflow and the aerodynamic drag coefficient, the MAN Concept S trailer has a truncated end at the top and to the side.
The optimised aerodynamic drag coefficient even enables considerable potential savings with the TGX EfficientLine semitrailer tractor.
