Responsibility for the future

The aim we are pursuing is to harmonise our long-term economic success, ecological compatibility and the social justice of our action. It is the task of our management and of all our staff to fill this policy with life and to live it out at their place of work.

What is "sustainability"?

Sustainability is a term that originated in the field of forestry but has now been accepted in the economic and corporate sector too. At the World Climate Conference in Rio de Janeiro (1992) the term sustainability gained an economic and a social aspect in addition to its ecological background.

The economic view demands that in the long term the maximum possible effect should be achieved with the minimum of resources. The social view says that people should use their knowledge and skills in order to shape global togetherness so that subsequent generations will find suitable conditions in which to live.

Clear Climate Strategy

By concentrating on the two fields of transportation and energy, MAN is focusing on precisely those products and services that significantly influence climate change. The new MAN Climate Strategy has now been adopted to contribute to the reduction of global CO2 emissions. The mandatory target is to reduce its own CO2 emissions at MAN sites by 25 percent worldwide by 2020 (baseline: 2008).

Active protection of our vital sphere

Our future as a company is closely linked to the preservation of the conditions for life. Protection of the environment and of resources has thus enjoyed high priority in the MAN Truck & Bus Group for many years now.

At our production plants regular internal and external audits are carried out to review and spur on the measures we take to protect the environment. Here we pay special attention to continuous improvement of environmental protection. Where quality and technology permit we use water-soluble paints, for example, thus reducing the share of inorganic solvents.

Another focus is on optimising and thus reducing the use of coolants and lubricants and the associated consumption of water. More information on sustainability activities of the MAN Group

People matter to us

People are the most important factor in a company and our most valuable resource. With their different talents, their wealth of ideas and their commitment they secure MAN's position as a high-tech group.

Our people are deployed according to their potential, given further training as required and given challenges. A wide range of further training courses gives qualified skilled employees and managers the opportunity to constantly further their knowledge and abilities and adjust them to developments in technology.

As well as seminars and qualification programmes we offer our staff the opportunity to develop their skills in job rotation and employment abroad. This not only fosters a wider understanding of structures, processes and requirements in the company across national, plant and departmental frontiers, but also ensures a continuous build-up and exchange of information and knowledge between our employees.

We bear responsibility for society

Intelligent entrepreneurial activity has its place in the centre of society. We try to do justice to our responsibility here in the form of financial assistance, sponsoring, donations and foundations.

MAN student sponsorship for highly talented school leavers or the MAN Future Award for outstanding scientific achievements are just two examples of our activities in this field. But the sphere of social involvement of the MAN Group goes much further than this – from promotion of cultural institutions from the art and music sectors and support for children and young people throughout the world right up to active disaster relief.
