MAN Truck & Bus
Decarbonization at MAN Away from fossil fuels, toward renewable energies: MAN is systematically following this path with its "New MAN Strategy" and is continuing to expand its fleet of battery-electric vehicles and the necessary charging infrastructure. All of this, if possible, with renewable energy and emission-free supply chains.
We want to make a positive contribution to society and to make it easy for our cus-tomers to live up to their responsibilities. Our vision is one of an MAN without greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions and without accidents on the road or in production. We aim to ensure that human beings and their well-being are at the center of everything MAN does. Our “Clean, Safe, Caring. Driving Responsible Transport.” motto sums up these endeavors.
The Science Based Targets initiative - as it is translated in German - is an association of several environmental protection and non-profit organisations: Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC; MAN joined in 2010), World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It sets a kind of gold standard in terms of greenhouse gas reduction for companies and set a clearly defined path with concrete requirements and goals to limit CO2 emissions and thus climate change.
After all, climate protection, environmental protection and responsible action in the sense of sustainability are core elements for successful companies. What's more, participation in SBTi also promotes innovation and competitiveness - and demonstrates to increasingly environmentally conscious customers how serious MAN is by means of concrete voluntary commitments. It also strengthens MAN's credibility and brand image. The topic of sustainability is therefore an important building block that MAN has anchored in its strategy.
We take responsibility along our entire value chain, focusing on five fields of action: responsibility for products, responsibility in production, responsibility in the supply chain, responsibility for people, and responsibility for society. This is MAN’s way of making a targeted contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
By developing safe and efficient transportation and energy solutions, we aim to reconcile the greatest possible economic benefits for our customers with aspects relating to environmental and climate protection. We take a holistic view of our product responsibility, looking at the entire product life cycle — from raw materials extraction through disposal. The focus is on the following aspects:
Climate change, pollution, and resource scarcity are relevant global challenges facing the production sector. State-of-the-art technology and our integrated management systems are helping us to reduce the environmental impact of our production activities. We use various levers to reduce CO2 emissions and help mitigate climate change. Our levels are:
The MAN Group’s procurement policy aims to optimize material costs, ensure security of supply, and reduce environmental and social risks in the relationship with suppliers. This is not only designed to increase our profitability, but also to strengthen various aspects of sustainability:
MAN intends to remain one of Europe’s leading players in the commercial vehicle industry in the future. In order to do so, it needs a workforce of qualified and motivated employees. It is our aim to offer our employees a safe and attractive working environment that lets them develop to their full potential. This is made possible by our values-based culture of diversity, openness, and transparency:
For MAN, there is a direct link between corporate responsibility and commercial success. In addition to responsible corporate governance and compliance with applicable laws, this also includes open dialogue with our stakeholders. Our corporate citizenship initiatives and MAN aid to refugees also enable us to make a lasting contribution to sustainable development.
