MAN Truck & Bus
The products range from the vans with a gross weight of 3.0 to 5.5 tonnes, through trucks with a gross weight of 7.49 to 44 tonnes, to heavy special-purpose vehicles with a gross train weight of up to 250 tonnes. MAN is now a full-range supplier. The company also produces city buses, intercity buses, coaches and bus chassis for the MAN brand, along with luxury coaches for the NEOPLAN brand. The product portfolio also includes industrial engines for marine, on-road and off-road applications and a comprehensive range of transport-related services.
MAN Truck & Bus has reached its forecast targets for sales and turnover. Our MAN TGE van product range made a major contribution to this. The positive development was also supported by high European demand for trucks in the first six months of the year. Albeit the market in Europe for trucks over 6 tons slowed down in the course of the year. This weaker European truck demand in the second six months is partly due to orders being brought forward to the first half of the year given introduction of the digital tachograph in Europe on 15 June 2019, as well as anticipatory effects due to Brexit. This enabled truck market shares in Europe to be increased.
MAN TGE sales, whose volume almost doubled, contributed in particular to the rise in total vehicle sales.
371 million euros (2018: 402 million euros) – a decline of 8 per cent
Reasons for this decline: negative developments in the truck market in the EU28+2 region, declining orders for buses from Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Israel

We want to make the world of freight traffic and commercial vehicles more efficient, more environmentally friendly and safer and are therefore focusing, among other things, on three trend-setting fields to achieve our aims: Automated driving, connectivity and climate-friendly drives. MAN is consequently concentrating its research and development activities not only on the ongoing maintenance and continuing development of new products within its range but has also turned its attention to the reduction of fuel consumption, the cutting of emissions, the development of alternative drive systems and the use of alternative fuels as well as the improvement of active and passive safety. The RIO digital brand – an open, cloud-based platform for the entire transport industry, which acts as an independent brand within the TRATON Group – was initiated within the framework of digital transformation.

The MAN Truck & Bus operating profit of 371 million euros was significantly below the previous year's figure (402 million euros). The reasons for this decline were a difficult market environment for used vehicles and higher expenses due, among other things, to depreciation resulting from increased investment activity and increased costs in the run-up to launch of the new truck and bus generations. The previous year's result was burdened by the substantial expenses of restructuring our activities in India.
