It was a double success for the Hamburg team at the Volkspark stadium on 28th November 2021. HSV secured a 3-0 victory over FC Ingolstadt in their 2. Bundesliga home game and at half-time added a new, exclusive team bus from MAN Truck & Bus to their fleet.
Christoph Huber, chair of the board of MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH, handed over the 510 hp MAN Lion’s Coach to HSV chairman Jonas Boldt in the half-time break. “We are pleased to be continuing our long-standing partnership with Hamburg SV and to be taking the team to their matches in the future too,” said Huber after the handover. “The new team bus has an unmistakeable design and comprehensive comfort features to make the players’ time on board as pleasant as possible.” However, the MAN Lion’s Coach provides more than just stress-free travel — it’s also particularly sustainable on the road: it was recently named as “Sustainable Coach of the Year 2022”.
MAN has been a partner of HSV since 2010, supplying the team bus for their professional players. “HSV and MAN have built a strong partnership that has already endured for more than a decade,” explained Philipp Mokrohs, director of Brand, Marketing and Sponsoring at HSV Fußball AG. “Because long-term partnerships built on trust are important to us, we are extremely pleased to have extended our contract with MAN.”
The unveiling of the new MANschaftsbus took place outside the stadium and was livestreamed on the stadium TV. The bus is fitted with a wealth of safety and comfort features. “When we were planning our new team bus, safety and a pleasant travel experience for the whole team were particularly important,” explained Jonas Boldt during the handover at the Volkspark. “That’s why we are pleased that with an experienced partner like MAN by our side, they can apply their expertise to fulfil all our requirements to the highest level.”

There it is! For you. For us. For Hamburg.
All 32 leather passenger seats on the bus are equipped with a massage function, adjustable headrests as well as tables and leg rests. A sound system with a total of six subwoofers and flatscreen TVs provide a party atmosphere and entertainment after a winning game. Healthy and vitamin-rich meals and snacks can be prepared in the exclusive on-board galley at the rear of the vehicle.
The MAN Lion’s Coach has a system to monitor its surroundings using four cameras and is fitted with many assistance systems such as an electronic stability program (ESP), a rain and light sensor, the MAN AttentionGuard awareness assistant, adaptive cruise control, an emergency braking assistant and the Lane Guard System.
The triple-axle coach is driven by an efficient and reliable 6-cylinder diesel engine that meets Euro 6d emissions regulations. The MAN TipMatic 12-speed automatic gearbox with integrated retarder guarantees a smooth and quiet journey.

MAN has built up a wealth of expertise in the creation of team buses and has become the benchmark in Germany for this type of commercial vehicle — as the customer list shows: FC Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach among others and, of course, both the men’s and women’s German national football teams all travel in MANschaftsbus team buses.
The HSV bus has a striking wrap, custom made for the team. It is adorned with the club’s blue, white and black colours and a huge HSV diamond. The slogan “Für euch. Für uns. Für Hamburg.” [For you. For us. For Hamburg.] emphasises the close connection to the port city. It also has various motifs relating to the Volkspark stadium, the port and Hamburg’s coat of arms.
The MAN bus will now be taking HSV to their 2. Bundesliga games and — if the club continues to play as well as they did against Ingolstadt — might even take them back to the top flight soon. Everyone at MAN will be keeping their fingers crossed!
