MAN has announced plans to invest over €100 million to transform the company into a global provider of environmentally friendly transport solutions and to locate a battery factory in Nuremberg. One of the key figures in the transformation is Ulrich Zimmer, Senior Vice President Production Powertrain. In this interview, Zimmer talks about the significance of this decision.

A HISTORIC DAY FOR MAN

On June 29, 2022, a historic course was set for the MAN plant in Nuremberg: Starting in 2025, around 100,000 battery packs are to be produced here annually. This will not only secure 350 jobs, but also the future of the site. The decision in favor of Nuremberg was made in very close cooperation between the company and co-determination as well as the Bavarian state government, which has promised 30 million euros in technology funding.    

Batteries "made in Bavaria"

In future, battery packs for e-trucks and e-buses will be manufactured at the MAN site in Nuremberg. As early as 2025, around 100,000 high-voltage batteries per year are to be produced in large-scale series.

Nuremberg has a future

In the course of battery production, 350 state-of-the-art jobs are to be created in Nuremberg.
