MAN Truck & Bus
Trusting business relationship Duvenbeck fleet manager Bernd Reining (left) and MAN representative Jens Ehlting have been working together for ten years.
The sight is already familiar to inhabitants in the small town of Hamminkeln on the Lower Rhine: brand-new MAN trucks transporting two further gleaming tractor units on a low loader along the small B 473 country road. Their destination is logistics company Duvenbeck's central workshop in the Dingden district. Three TGX trucks painted in dark green are located in a large workshop there. Employees are busy completing Duvenbeck's corporate design using large decals: red squares with a white "D" in them. A total of 100 TGX tractor units rolled into Hamminkeln-Dingden in December.
Duvenbeck regularly orders such numbers of trucks from MAN. "My objective is always to reconcile ecology and economy," explains fleet manager and authorised signatory Bernd Reining at the Duvenbeck headquarters, a modern office building in nearby Bocholt. Reining's tasks include purchasing new trucks, advancing digitisation, ensuring consistent data evaluation and thus that the majority of the extensive Duvenbeck fleet is constantly available. The company now has a total of 1650 modern trucks operating in eight countries. As a logistics service provider, it has grown rapidly since starting to focus on the automotive industry as a customer alongside the plastics industry. Duvenbeck drives for large car manufacturers and their suppliers. Duvenbeck even assumes responsibility for the assembly of certain groups of parts before they are delivered. This occurs just-in-sequence, i.e. delivery to the assembly line just when they are needed. Automotive customers rely on Duvenbeck – and Duvenbeck has to be able to rely on its trucks always arriving on time and not being stranded with a breakdown.

Everything at a glance An MAN truck's data already reveals a lot about its condition. This helps logistics service providers like Duvenbeck to plan ahead.
Duvenbeck manager Reining appreciates being able to rely on MAN in this challenging business. "I need a partner who really understands me and our company," he says. And Jens Ehlting, the local MAN contact for Duvenbeck in the Bocholt region, adds: "We jointly plan the trucks' equipment in detail." The two have been working together for ten years. Together they openly discuss the requirements faced by Duvenbeck's logistics and how these can be met. Together with Reining, MAN representative Ehlting configures the trucks from engine to rear axle especially for use at Duvenbeck. He points out options to his customer, takes care of upgrades and also informs them which new developments are imminent. Orders then go to MAN headquarters in Munich where Josef Sindl, Head of International Key Account, is responsible for Duvenbeck. "We need six to eight weeks from order to delivery – and production starts as soon as the ink has dried on the contract," reports Sindl.
Duvenbeck not only uses the trucks, but also exploits technical vehicle data together with MAN. This relates to improvements in consumption, damage and wear, for example. Both companies thus benefit from each other, because they jointly identify and exploit development potential. "Together we create vehicles that meet all requirements, especially those of our customers," says Duvenbeck fleet manager Bernd Reining. Reining is a member of MAN's Expert Advisory Board, where he contributes important tips for new and further developments. He has already sat in the new truck for a test drive and found that many of his suggestions have been implemented. "This is a good indication of the strong partnership between the two companies, who want to jointly create the best possible product," says Reining. As he informed us, Duvenbeck is already planning to purchase the new TGX.
"We're not just selling trucks, but transport solutions," emphasises Jan Witt, Head of After Sales Management at MAN. This includes MAN ServiceCare. The new truck constantly sends data to the workshop, where it is analysed. This enables the service team to book a visit to the workshop before wear and tear results in damage.
MAN's mobility guarantee ensures reliable operational readiness in over 30 European countries. Customers are able to resume work quickly in the event of a defect or will be compensated for downtime.
This GPS-supported cruise control supports an economical, efficient driving style. "Our customers benefit from this every day," states Roman Sitte, Truck Sales Manager at MAN.
