MAN promotes talented young people at Formula Student Germany

MAN supports up-and-coming engineers at the international engineering design and racing competition at Hockenheimring.

This year's Formula Student Germany from August 1 through 5 at Hockenheimring sees MAN expanding its commitment and promoting especially passionate university teams in the form of transport sponsorship. In addition, the more than 100 teams of students from over 20 countries will have the opportunity of talking shop about concepts and technology with the MAN members of the judges' panel. MAN Personnel Marketing will also be there, providing information about the company and career opportunities.

"The consistently efficient trucks, buses and engines from MAN put the engineering skills of our outstanding employees on the road. Combined with reliable and innovative technologies and the highest level of customer orientation, these have provided the basis for our success for over 250 years. To continue this tradition, MAN is always on the look-out for highly qualified staff who want to drive progress. At Formula Student it isn't only winning on the track that's decisive: the ability to work in a team, specialist know-how and social competence are just as crucial for performing successfully. And these are exactly the qualities we look for in our staff," says Dr Bernhard Frey, Head of Personnel Marketing at MAN Truck & Bus.

This year, MAN is again sponsoring the Formula Student Germany, giving prospective engineers from Germany and abroad the opportunity of demonstrating their entrepreneurial approach, their ability to work independently, their creativity and their powers of innovation. For the first time, MAN is supporting selected university teams in the form of transport sponsorship. As the only sponsor from the commercial vehicles sector, MAN is providing one truck to each of five teams to transport the racing cars to a maximum of three events in Europe. MAN TGX and TGL trucks will get the racing cars efficiently and reliably to the race track. MAN analysed and evaluated the submitted concepts according to a number of different criteria. Eventually, the most convincing were the teams Tufast Racing Team and Tufast e-Technology (both from the Technical University of Munich), munichHMotorsport (University of Applied Sciences, Munich), WHZ Racing Team (University of Applied Sciences, Zwickau) and KA-RaceIng e.V. (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). These teams can now count on MAN as a strong partner.

"In motorsport, you can only be successful if you develop, optimise and run vehicles with innovative ideas and a high level of technical expertise, but also with great passion and top teamwork skills. We at MAN also need these characteristics in the series-production business. This is why MAN sees Formula Student as an ideal platform for the development of up-and-coming young people in the engineering field," says Stefan Knecht, Senior Vice President Engineering Truck and Cabin at MAN Truck & Bus.

Formula Student Germany is an international engineering design competition that offers students the opportunity of developing, designing and producing a racing car themselves. The highlight is the presentation of the vehicles at the annual race at Hockenheimring. This is where the prototypes are put through their paces to see what they have to offer in the way of acceleration, handling, consumption and endurance. In addition to its performance on the track, each team also has its theoretical engineering design, cost calculation and business plan evaluated by a panel of experts.
